ECO-CLUB: “PRAKRUTHI” was formed by the Department of Botany at BMS College for Women in the year 2006 as per the direction of JDCE with an objective of creating awareness about environment, its importance and the need for its protection.

OBJECTIVES OF PRAKRUTHI:

  • To sensitize students about environmental issues.
  • To create awareness about environment protection, energy conservation, energy resources, global warming, threats to biodiversity etc.
  • To inculcate scientific temper.
  • To disseminate information about new research in the field.

ECO-CLUB – “PRAKRUTHI” ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2020-2021

1. Department of Botany in association with Eco-Club: Prakruthi had organised an Online Photograhy competition – “Capture the Nature Contest” as Part of World Environment Day-2020 held on 05th June 2020.

 

2. Department of Botany and Biotechnology in association with Eco-Club started “Green Treasure” a blend of Herbal and ornamental Garden on 02nd March, 2021 in the Campus to encourage students to grow plants. Different varieties of herbal and ornamental plants were planted by students of IB.ScCBZ/CBBt. The Garden was inaugurated by Principal Dr. N Nanda Madam.

 

As part of Swachata Pakvada 2020, Department of Botany in association with Eco-Club undertook planting of saplings that are high Carbon-di-oxide absorbers on 17th January, 2020 in the campus. Some best examples of high Carbon-di-oxide absorbers are like Dieffenbachia, Palms, Dracaena, Peace lily etc. Dieffenbachia and Palms belonging to family Arecaceae were planted. The programme was inaugurated by Principal Dr.Nanda N.

 

Eco-Club in association with Department of Botany started a Rose Garden on 24th January, 2020 in the Campus to encourage students to grow plants. Different varieties of Rose Plants were planted by students of I, II and III B.Sc and Eco-Club students. The Garden was inaugurated by Principal Dr.Nanda N.

 

Department of Botany, Eco – Club and Department of Kannada screened a Documentary show on BGL Swamy “SWAMIYANA” on 28th January at 2.00pm in BSN Seminar Hall for BSc students. The documentary show was inaugurated by Dr.Nanda N, Principal BMS College for Women, accompanied byProf. Shailaja K S., Vice-Principal, Vijaya College the resource person, presided the documentary show.

 

Department of Botany and Eco-Club organised Handmade making masks for students during the lockdown period of pandemic COVID-19.
