Civil Defence

History of Civil Defence

Civil Defence in India was established with a name CERO in 1936 but took an organised form after the Chinese aggression in November 1962 and the Indo Pak conflict of September 1965. However, it was during the war with Pakistan in Dec 1971 that the contribution of the Civil Defence Organisation was really noticed. The Civil Defence Act of July 1968 has made the Civil Defence Organisation an integral part of the defence of the country, with which the nation can manage on a long term basis it is to be reviewed from time to time and reinforced if condition worsen.

Establishment

Civil Defence is made up chiefly of Civilians and is organised primarily on a voluntary basis.

In BMS College for Women Civil Defence Organisation began on 17th of October 2014. SmtBhuvaneshwari E, Dept of Commerce took the charge of Civil Defense. From 09/08/2016 to present Smt. ShobhavatiBai, Dept of Zoology is Convenor of Civil Defence. Smt.Manjula L, Dept of Commerce is Faculty Member of Civil defence unit.

MOTTO

  • To train the students to protect the citizens during emergency conditions such as military attacks, natural disasters, etc...
  • To help in student’s career development

Major Tasks of Civil Defence

  • To make sure that the public is warned of danger and provided with instructions on how to avoid hazards.
  • Advice people to protect themselves by either evacuating the area or remain and take shelter.
  • Organizing immediate relief to the survivors.
  • Support emergency services
    • Rescue operations
    • Firefighting
    • Law enforcement
    • Medical care
    • Public works repair
    • Provision of voluntary Food, Shelter and Clothing.
  • Assist in recovery operations
    • Clearance of Debris
    • Restoring utility services
    • Managing relocations centers

Republic day parade at HQ: Republic day parade held at Manekshaw parade ground on 26th January 2019.

 

Republic Day Celebration at BMSCW: Republic day celebrated in the premises of BMS College for women on 26th January 2019.

 

Annual Sports meet: The Annual Sports Meet held in Mundkur Fire Academy from 8th January 2019 to 11th January 2019.

 

Mock drill at Greenwood High School: Civil Defence volunteers of BMS College for women participated in the Mock Drill held at Green Wood High school along with fire department and QRT team

 

Traffic Awareness Programme: About 35 Civil defence Volunteers of BMS College for women took part in traffic awareness Programme and a Street Play near Lalbagh which was hosted by the Basavanagudi Police Station traffic police in order to create awareness among the public about accidents.

 

Route March: 40 volunteers of BMS College for women participated in a Route March which was heldat Lalbagh on 17th February 2019. Dr. N. Nanda, Principal, BMSCW and Civil Defence Co-ordinator Shobhavathi Bai also took part in this event.

 

ATI Training, Mysore:The following Civil Defence Volunteers from BMSCW represented the Karnataka Civil Defence in Administrative Training Inistitute, Mysuru from 18/02/19 to 20/02/19.

 

Aero Show: The civil defence Volunteers from BMSCW participated in Aero Show at Yelahanka Air Force Station from 19th February 2019 to 24th February 2019 and they participated in Mock Drill held in Kempegowda International Airport in order to give awareness to the public about the fire accidents.

 

Fire Call: There was an unexpected fire call at the aero show at Yelahanka air force station.2 Civil Defence volunteers Aishwarya S of III B.Com ‘A’sec andChaitra from I BCA ‘A’sec from BMSCW took initiative of rescuing the people in trouble.

 

Walkathon on Women’s day:Civil Defence Volunteers participated in the Walkathon arranged on account of Women’s Day Celebration from BMS Engineering College to Ramakrishna Ashram which was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sri K Annamalai.

 

Pulwama Attack Rally: Civil Defence Volunteers participated in the Rally conducted by BMSCW on account of sad demise of Indian soldiers in Pulwama Attack on February 19th 2019

 

Election Awareness Campaign : Civil defence volunteers participated in Election awareness campaign arranged along with BBMP to spread awareness in the neighborhood on 25th March 2019.

Seminar on Nation Building: Civil defence volunteers participated in seminar organized on the topic Nation building by creating awareness and learning from the Ethos and Traditions of armed forces on 25th March in BSN Hall.
